Gary now plans to give the players a "very hard week" in training, all leading up to what he hopes will be a much improved performance in the televised clash against Southampton at St Mary's.

"They (the players) have to be angry about something and I'll make them angry."

The manager told Bristol City World: "The lads know we've got a very hard week ahead of us.

"They (the players) need to hate somebody or something at the end of this week because we need to go into the Southampton game angry.

"It'll probably be me that they're all angry with. Hopefully that will help us find our committed game for Saturday."

He added: "They have to be angry about something and I'll make them angry."
