A strong City reserve side put five past Salisbury City to go briefly top of the Totesport.com Combination Wales & West Division table.

Gary Johnson named 11 players with first-team experience in his starting line-up and saw Andy Webster, John Akinde, Lee Trundle, David Noble and Tristan Plummer all find the net in a 5-2 win.

Webster headed the home side in front after 19 minutes, meeting a Gavin Williams corner at the far post after Salisbury keeper Grant Porter couldn't make full contact on the ball.

It took the Blue Square Premier visitors just three minutes to get back in the game, however, Robbie Sinclair getting clear on the left before his deflected shot off Jamie McCombe beat Weale at the near post.

Akinde restored City's advantage just before the break, finishing coolly after a strong solo run on the left from his own half.

Akinde was involved for City's third goal in the 51st minute, drawing a foul by Porter just inside the area as he chased a long pass forward from Cole Skuse. Trundle made no mistake from the spot, beating Porter to his left.

Salisbury pulled a goal back against the run of play in the 67th minute, after Ivan Sproule blocked a Jonathan Davies run into the box. Robbie Matthews converted the resultant penalty to Chris Weale's right side, even though the keeper dived the right way.

But eight minutes later City restored their two-goal advantage as the lively Noble - who had earlier been booked for dissent - produced a sublime finish 25 yards from goal.

Substitute Plummer - one of just two players with no senior experience for City on show - lashed home a fifth goal from the edge of the area in injury time after good build play by Sproule.

Reigning champions City now go temporarily top of the table prior to Exeter City's game against Plymouth tonight.
