Jamie McAllister says playing competitively for his country would be the pinnacle of his career.

The defender has been recalled to the Scotland squad after a four-year absence, having made his one and only appearance for his country in an international friendly versus Trinidad & Tobago in 2004.

Now, with George Burley's recall, Jamie could be set to make his competitve debut for Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Norway at Hampden on Saturday.

Speaking from the Scotland training camp, Jamie said: "I think I have improved playing in the Championship.

"I am more experienced now, which makes you a better player because you read the game better and adapt more.

"I feel more confident in my ability and feel I have a foot in the door. It is up to me to make an impression. It would be great to be involved on Saturday.

"You want to reach the pinnacle as a player and, for me, that is playing for your country."

Burley was in charge of Jamie during his Hearts days, and the 30-year-old defender added: "I thought I might have a chance with George in charge but I still knew I had to prove myself by performing consistently for my club.

"I never gave up hope of returning to the international squad."
