City Under-18s produced a poor performance as they slipped to a 2-1 away defeat at Southampton in the FA Premier Academy League.

John Clayton's side never got going and found themselves a goal behind after half-an-hour through a controversial free kick goal.

Ashley Kington gave City a lifeline with a goal against the run of play on 65 minutes, but they never kicked on from the goal.

Instead it was left to Southampton to bag all three points with a winning goal four minutes from time.

John Clayton told bcfc: "That's our poorest performance for a long, long time and the attitude wasn't right."
