MURRAY SCORES FROM OWN HALF
Scott Murray's Xabi Alonso-style wonder goal from his own half was the highlight of City's 6-0 win over Bournemouth reserves this evening.
Murray, Andy Webster and Ivan Sproule put City three-up at half-time before the Ashton Gate crowd watched in awe as City's Scottish winger took advantage of a sliced free kick by Bournemouth keeper Ryan Pryce to net more than 60 yards from goal.
Substitute Marlon Jackson wrapped up victory with two late goals as Gary Johnson's "second first team" began their home Football Combination campaign in style.
Skipper Murray opened the scoring in the ninth minute, controlling a right-wing cross by Jordan Walker before tucking the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot.
City doubled their lead 14 minutes later, Murray's corner from the right led to a goalmouth scramble and, after Ryan Pryce parried a shot from Steve Brooker, Webster nipped in at the near post to drive the loose ball into the net from yards out.
Brooker - who has scored five times already in all competitions this season - was denied by the post in the 33rd minute after being put through by Marvin Elliott, who was making his first competitive outing since recovering from a knee injury which has kept him out action so far this season.

John Akinde made his Ashton Gate debut in 6-0 victory |
But the home side extended their lead shortly before the interval, with new signing John Akinde the provider.
The transfer deadline signing, who looked strong and lively on his home debut, burst clear on the right hand side, shrugging off Bournemouth defender George Webb before feeding Sproule who - despite hitting the side netting moments before - made no mistake from 12 yards out.
The highlight of the game, however, came three minutes into the second half as Bournemouth were awarded a free kick midway inside their own half.
Goalkeeper Pryce - who had kept a clean sheet in the corresponding fixture last season - slipped as he took his kick and the ball fell to Murray on the left side of the pitch, inside his own half in front of the home dug out.
Spotting Pryce off his line, the winger lofted the ball goalward watching it bounce a couple of times inside the area as it made its way to the net. The Scotsman held his arms aloft and was immediately mobbed by his team-mates celebrating a Beckham-esque piece of magic.

Marvin Elliott played 75 minutes following return from injury |
Pryce made amends for his earlier slip by producing a brilliant diving save from Sproule before the introduction of Jackson sealed the game.
Fellow replacement Ashley Kington - who came on after 75 minutes for a fit-again Elliott - set up Jackson for City's fifth goal in the 85th minute with a defence-splitting through ball.
And Jackson - who netted 15 goals for the reserves and Academy last season - made it six with a well-worked goal just before added time.
Kington and Gavin Williams combined to make the most of a stray pass by Bournemouth left-back Bradley Magookin, setting up Jackson for another cool finish inside the box.
City Reserves: Weale; Walker, Webster, Wilkinson, Edwards; Murray, Elliott (Kington 75), Williams, Sproule; Brooker (Jackson 46), Akinde. Subs not used: Bradley, Stambolziev, Williams.
