CREWE DESERVED IT - GARY
Gary Johnson admitted he would have to shoulder some of the blame after City's 2-1 Carling Cup defeat to Crewe Alexandra.
The City boss chose to select the same ten outfield players for this evening's second round tie, following the superb 3-0 win at Coventry on Saturday.
But after seeing goals from Anthony Elding and Byron Moore dump his team out of the competition, the boss conceded: "Maybe I made the mistake of playing the same team after they put in all that effort on Saturday."
In his post-match Bristol City World interview, Gary continued: "We certainly didn't look like we had our legs today, and I'll take a bit of responsibility for that.
"I thought we could go into this game on the back of that great result and play the same way but it didn't work like that. We'll have to look at everything.
"We were close to making changes but we spoke to people and they didn't want to be rested. If they had told me they would be posing out there I wouldn't have played them.
"At the end of the day Crewe played better than us and deserved it. We didn't get going until the last ten minutes and it was too late then.
"We're disappointed, the lads are disappointed but we need to work hard to make sure we don't have a dopey, posey [sic] game again."
Jamie McAllister was stretchered off early in the game, but there was more positive news after the final whistle.
"We don't think anything's broken," said the manager, who has lost other defenders Jamie McCombe and Christian Ribeiro to long-term injuries recently.
"It was a big kick to the shin that Jamie suffered and he's got a big lump on his leg. We'll give him a scan soon and hopefully it won't keep him out too long."
Now focus returns to the league, with City entertaining QPR at Ashton Gate on Saturday.
"We have to use this defeat and bounce back in the league, but that doesn't make me feel any better after going out of the cup," Gary concluded.
