MAYNARD OFFER WAS FIRST - GARY
Gary Johnson has revealed City put in an offer for Nicky Maynard before attempting to sign any other striker this summer.
The City boss says the club first offered £1.5m for the forward but Crewe snubbed the bid, initially holding out for double that figure.
In the end the 21-year-old arrived at Ashton Gate for a club record £2.25m, signing a four-year contract.
Gary told bcfc.co.uk: "Nicky was the first one we made an offer for but Crewe quite rightly turned it down, saying they wanted double the £1.5m we had bid.
"Later on we managed to agree on £2m, with the extras on appearances. We're delighted to have him on board and he'll be great addition to the squad.
"We had the disappointments with (Michael) Mifsud and (Emad) Meteb, which have been well documented. Nicky's already made a good first impression and long may that goalscoring continue."
