Nicky Maynard has spoken for the first time since becoming City's new record £2.25m signing and declared: "This is the perfect place for me."

The 21-year-old forward agreed a four-year contract at Ashton Gate today to complete a switch from League One side Crewe Alexandra.

In his only interview since completing the deal, Nicky exclusively told Bristol City World: "I'm so excited. It's a good move for me to keep progressing in my career.

"I've had a look around the stadium, spoken to some of the players and the manager. This seems like the perfect place for me.

"The manager's told me how the club is very tight-knit, and all the lads here are buzzing after their success last season.

"Since winning promotion from League One, Bristol City hasn't looked back since. They did very well last season getting to the play-off and were unlucky not to reach the Premier League.

"Everyone is confident the team can go one step further this season and hopefully I'll be able to help with that.

"The club has sold plenty of season tickets and Ashton Gate is going to be packed week in, week out. That can only help the players.

"I want to score as many goals as I can and help Bristol City into the Premier League."

The Windsor-born livewire striker insists he isn't fazed by the club record fee splashed out by City for his services.

"To be honest I don't feel that sort of pressure," he added. "I just like going out there and enjoying my football."

To date Nicky has played just once at Championship level - in his Crewe debut for a match against Millwall in 2005.

He said: "I know that game was the final match of the season and didn't mean much, but I'm sure I'll settle and adapt quickly at Championship level. I'm ready for it."

The forward will make his debut for City against Royal Antwerp at Ashton Gate tomorrow night.
