Gavin Williams has spoken of his determination to play catch-up fitness wise and be ready for the season's curtain-raiser at Blackpool.

The midfielder made his long-awaited debut at Cheltenham Town last night, playing 66 minutes of the 1-1 draw.

Having spent most of his time on the sidelines since making the undisclosed switch from Ipswich this summer, Gavin is now determined to make up for lost time.

He told Bristol City World: "Obviously I had a few issues with my fitness when I first arrived but hopefully that's all behind me now and I can't wait for the next game.

"Pre-season is all about building fitness and the hour at Cheltenham will certainly help me. I feel quite fit but clearly I'm behind the rest of the lads.

"That's always going to be the case when you miss two weeks of pre-season but hopefully I can catch up quickly."

He added: "We're a good team. Pre-season results mean nothing, it really matters when the season kicks off at Blackpool (on August 9th)."
