GREAT COUP FOR ASHTON GATE
Bon Jovi's sell-out concert at Ashton Gate this evening was described as a "great coup" for Bristol, by group managing director Doug Harman.
Just over 23,000 people - the biggest crowd seen at Bristol City's home ground for any event in 19 years - saw the New Jersey band play a brilliant two-hour set. See review here.
Bon Jovi are the latest in a long line of rock legends to play an outdoor concert at Ashton Gate, following the likes of The Who, Elton John, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Neil Diamond.
And group managing director Doug Harman said: "It was a fabulous show, possibly the best outdoor concert Bristol has seen in my opinion.
"Bon Jovi are rated one of the top live bands in the world and it was a great coup for Bristol, and Ashton Gate in particular, to get a group of that standing to play in the city.
"Special credit must go to Keith Draisey and his operations team for all the effort they put in to make the concert happen. It was a brilliant night and one evryone connected with Ashton Gate can take pride in."
The band's Ashton Gate concert was the 90th date in their worldwide Lost Highway tour; their next stop is Twickenham, home of English rugby union.
It will take the next three days for the staging, pitch covering and other concert-related equipment to be cleared from the Ashton Gate site in time for the return of City's first-team for the 2008/09 season on 1st July.
