Gary Johnson wants City to earn a home leg second in the play-offs for the supporters.
The manager goes into Sunday's final day game with Preston (2pm at Ashton Gate) knowing victory for his side will guarantee a fourth place finish in the Coca-Cola Championship.

That would be enough to ensure City finish the play-off semi-finals back at Ashton Gate in around ten days' time.
He told Bristol City World: "It's not a tactical thing and I don't know if the statistics prove playing at home second means you win through more than not.
"The most important thing is winning through to the final in front of your home fans. If we can get through to Wembley in the second leg then it's better to be at Ashton Gate so we can share it with the supporters, rather than miles away from Bristol where we've been given a few thousand tickets.
"We'll wait to the final whistle to discover who we will face in the play-offs. I really don't have a preference on who we play.
"I certainly don't agree with people who say teams on a good run going into the play-offs are the ones to avoid. Form doesn't matter, they're one-off games. It's three cup finals, two against the same opponents with the aim of getting to Wembley.
"We've had a great season so far and it would be a magnificent achievement for this football club to get to Wembley and win the play-off final."
Preston come to Ashton Gate with no fear of relegation but also no chance of reaching the play-offs.
But Gary said: "Alan Irvine (Preston manager) has had a fantastic time since taking over and I'm sure he's already building for next season.
"I think he's been told he has a contract for next season and rightly so. They'll come here with pride to play for, as always, and will want to do well."
Gary will be appearing on BBC Points West tonight at around 6.40pm.
