Steve Brooker has set his sights on toppling one of his arch rivals to put City's promotion push back on track.

Fresh from City's goalless draw with Wolves - the striker's first start for the club in over a year - Steve has promotion rivals Stoke City in his firing line.

A Port Vale forward for three seasons, the 26-year-old is assured of a warm reception at the Britannia Stadium when City travel to Staffordshire next Saturday.

But he admitted he is desperate to score against Stoke in the televised clash, something he failed to do in three attempts as a Valiant. On the plus side Steve has never been on the losing side against Stoke.

He told Bristol City World: "They were always our bitter rivals so it would be nice to score the winner there.

"I actually spoke to one of mates who is a Stoke fan and asked him if I'd get any stick, but he replied: 'I don't know if they'd still remember you now you've got no hair!'

"With Stoke's win over Coventry they've opened up a small gap on us and we need to get that back next week. We need to win, they'll probably be happy with a draw or obviously the win."

Reflecting on the draw with Wolves, Steve said: "I think it's a point gained. We were all disappointed last week, but against Wolves we knew what we had to do.

"It was a fair result and there wasn't too much to worry either keeper. We lacked that final bit of quality that we need to look for in our remaining three matches."
