Louis Carey has joined an exclusive club of five players who have made more than 500 appearances for City.

The City skipper played his 500th game for the club during Saturday's 2-1 home defeat to Plymouth Argyle.

The club plan to recognise the achievement further in the weeks ahead, but Gary Johnson and Steve Lansdown led a huge ovation for the skipper ahead of the Plymouth game, organising a special guard of honour after the team's warm-up.

The only other players to have reached the milestone are the late John Atyeo, Tom Ritchie, Trevor Tainton and Brian Tinnion.

Apart from Tainton, Louis is the only Bristol-born player on the list and also shares with Ritchie and Atyeo the distinction of having appeared in two promotion campaigns.

Atyeo made more appearances than any other City player in history during his unbroken period of service between 1951 and 1966, when he also scored a club record 351 goals.
