Steve Lansdown has praised the City fans for their "magnificent support" at Charlton Athletic last night.

City were expected to take a large following to the Valley for the crunch Coca-Cola Championship clash and almost 2,000 fans ended up packing out the away end.

Manager Gary Johnson claimed the vociferous nature of their support was a contributing factor to City's superb second half performance - culminating in Jamie McCombe's 62nd minute equaliser.

And City's chairman agreed today, saying: "I would like to thank our fans for their magnificent support at The Valley.

"They were a credit to the club and I know Gary and the players very much appreciated their backing."

City sold 1,088 tickets in advance, with a further 850 paying on the night and creating a tremendous atmosphere throughout the game.

However, there was one sour note after City's equaliser when a supporter lit a flare and threw it on to the pitch, causing a short delay to the game.

Steve added: "Inevitably it's a very exciting time for everyone at Bristol City, but I would ask fans to show their excitement in conventional ways.

"Fortunately last night's incident passed with only a slight delay to the game, but I wouldn't want our fans doing anything that could cause potential danger to fellow supporters."
