Gary Johnson says the capture of Nick Carle for an undisclosed fee adds "international quality" to his squad.

The City boss was delighted to see the Australian midfielder put pen to paper at Ashton Gate this afternoon.

And afterwards he told bcfc.co.uk of his new signing: "We like to bring good footballers here and he's definitely that. He's just hit the international scene and I feel we've got him here just at the right time.

"He's a quality player who can play all across the midfield four, or in behind the front man if we need him to. He adds international quality to our squad, although he knows he has to compete with the lads that have done so well so far for a first team spot.

"There's no real preferred position for Nick. Touch wood, we've been very lucky with injuries so far and as a manager you just want to keep adding quality to the squad.

"We spoke to him before signing and he knows all about how we pick team here at City. He has the same chance as everyone else and knows that if he plays well when he gets in then he will stay in the team.

"Nick is a fantastic person off the field, which is something I like. He passed all his interviews fine, along with being a good footballer.

"We have to give credit to Pete (Johnson) our chief scout for spotting him. He watched the international at Fulham, rather than out in Sydney which saved the club a few bob!

"Nick's also got great people around him which helped make sure this deal went through as soon as possible. It's great news for the club."
