JAMIE THRILLED TO EXTEND STAY
After a dream first season at Ashton Gate, Jamie McCombe was only too delighted to extend his stay at City until the end of season 2008/09.
As revealed exclusively by bcfc.co.uk today, City's Player of the Year has extended his initial two-year deal for a further 12 months.
Speaking to the club's official website, Jamie said: "It was all agreed during the back end of the season, before we had won promotion. We were in a good position and everything seemed right, I just wanted to commit my future to the club.
"It's an exciting time for the club. In football you always want to progress and improve and now everyone's geared up for the Championship.
"There was a great team spirit at Lincoln that Keith Alexander had built up, just like Gary Johnson has at Ashton Gate.
"You can have all the individuals you like, but that's no good if everybody is pulling in different directions. Togetherness is the most important thing you can have and that's exactly what we've got at City."
He added: "When I first joined the club I spoke to Steve Torpey. He told me that once you've joined Bristol City you'll never want to leave.
"The big man was right and I've made a lot of good friends during my first season at the club.
"I always knew there would be big expectations here because it's a big club. I'm just delighted we've got the team into the Championship and I can't wait for next season now."
