NEW STADIUM: THE PROPOSAL
Present thinking is that a new stadium at Ashton Vale could have a capacity of around 30,000 spectators.
A stadium of this scale would fit with the aspirations of Bristol City Football Club for the immediate future, and could also play a role in the future standing of Bristol as a regional sporting venue for the South West.
A stadium will require a substantial amount of capital to construct, and therefore is very important to consider how development will be funded.
Whilst some financial assistance should be available from local and central government sources for such a development, the majority of funding for the new stadium will however have to be raised by the Club and from the value of other ancillary elements of the development at both Ashton Vale and the existing site at Ashton Gate. All these elements together will support the main objectives of delivering a new stadium and ensuring the dynamic future of Bristol City Football Club.
We would welcome your views on what these ancillary elements might consist of, taking into account the physical constraints to the site imposed by existing nearby homes, environmental/ecological considerations, flood-containment and access to the sites.
Possible ancillary elements could include:
- Leisure uses
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Fast Food Outlets
- New Homes
- Retail development
- Local community facilities
- Employment sites (offices, light industrial units)
Subject to planning approval, a new stadium could be constructed and be in operation in time for the start of the 2012/13 football season.
