Bristol City 3-3 Barnsley
James Healey reports from Ashton Gate

Keith Millen's first home game in full charge ended in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Barnsley.

City found themselves 2-0 down after 12 minutes, only to get back on level terms with goals from Marvin Elliott and Albert Adomah.

The visitors took the lead again through former Liverpool midfielder Adam Hammill just after half time only to see City level again through a David Clarkson penalty.

In bright sunshine, which unfortunately quickly vanished, City conceded their fifth penalty since the beginning of pre-season.

After four minutes Cole Skuse conceded a penalty when referee Andy Penn adjudged he had fouled Hugo Colace just inside the box.

Striker Andy Gray stepped up and sent David James the wrong way.

City suffered another injury blow when Skuse was carried from the field of play with a knee injury moments later, being replaced by Lee Johnson.

Barnsley were looking strong going forward and doubled their advantage after 12 minutes.

Marvin Elliott sweeps the ball into the net for City

A pacey run by Manchester City loanee Kieran Trippier on the right saw him whip in a cross, which found Gray inside the six-yard box. The well-travelled striker made no mistake to beat the diving James in the City goal.

The Tykes could and should have made it 3-0 after 17 minutes. Gray found himself through on goal only to put his shot over the bar, when it looked easier to score.

City pulled a goal back after 19 minutes when Elliott guided the ball home after Luke Steele had palmed a Nicky Hunt free kick to the feet of the former Millwall man.

No sooner had the City fans finished celebrating, they were at it again. A tricky run from Clarkson saw him beat Jay McEveley on the right wing. Clarkson's pull back found an unmarked Adomah, who slotted into the corner of the net past the diving Steele to record his first league goal for City.

The first half came to an end with City pushing to take the lead for the first time as Elliott went close with two headed chances in quick succession.

Barnsley started the second half on the front foot and took the lead once more six minutes from the restart.

Hammill ran at the City defence and shot from just inside the area. His effort took a big deflection off Jamie McAllister's leg, which wrong footed James and sailed into the net.

City again levelled the scoring though, this time from the penalty spot. Sproule, who was causing McEveley all sorts of problems with his pace was tripped by the former Derby County left-back whilst running away from goal.

Striker Clarkson stepped up confidently and sent Steele the wrong way to bring the scores level.

City had their chances to win it as substitute John Akinde bustled his way clear but fired into the side-netting with his left foot.

And the home faithful thought Sproule had made it 4-3 after 83 minutes only too see his effort ruled out for offside.

City almost won it in the final minute when defender Jason Shackell sliced a clearance, but his keeper Steele made a great diving stop to spare any embarrassment.
