Sheffield United 2-0 Bristol City
Adam Baker reports from Ashton Gate

Second-half strikes from Henri Camara and Darius Henderson condemned City to a 2-0 defeat Sheffield United's Bramall Lane.

Despite first half dominance, the Blades couldn't find a way past Dean Gerken in the first period. But after Camara rattled in the opener soon after the break. Henderson doubled the advantage 13 minutes later, taking his goal tally against City this term to four goals.

Louis Carey came the closest for City with a headed effort against the crossbar.

After signing for the club just 24 hours earlier, Wolves loanee Chris Iwelumo began up front and struck up a promising partnership with Patrick Agyemang early on.

The Scotland international twice headed balls into the path of QPR loan man Agyemang inside the first ten minutes and both times Blades goalkeeper Mark Bunn needed to be alert and smother the ball.

Iwelumo took aim himself soon after, following a chipped pass over the top from Gavin Williams. The ball bounced kindly and Iwelumo volleyed powerfully towards goal only to see the effort blocked by Toni Kallio.

After that United began to take control, enjoying plenty of possession. Dean Gerken had to be out smartly to deny Camara, who had broken the offside trap.

Henderson nodded attempts wide and over the top in quick succession, before Iwelumo missed a glorious chance to mark his debut with a first half goal. The ball bounced across the box towards him but when he let fly with his left foot all he kicked was thin-air.

Gerken was then called into action to push away Kyle Bartley's deflected shot. Seconds later Mark Yeates' angled attempt was pushed clear by City's custodian.

Straight after the break City's defence presented Camara a sniff of a chance inside the six-yard box but he could only shoot straight at Gerken.

The Blades were clearly confident and they duly took the lead on 49 minutes when Bartley rolled the ball between Fontaine and Lewin Nyatanga towards Camara. Carey tried to move across to support his team-mates but his sliding challenge couldn't prevent Camara from lashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of Gerken's goal at the keeper's near post.

Gerken did keep out Yeates' free kick soon after following Fontaine's shirt-tug on Henderson. Orr sent a left-footed shot over the top at the other end.

Another set-piece saw Jamie Ward skim a shot just over the top of Gerken's goal, and you felt a second goal was on the cards.

It duly arrived on 62 minutes as Ward had time to pick out a cross from the left, and Henderson ran across his marker Carey to head downwards into the goal at the near post.

City failed to find a response when Sproule ran into the box and crossed for Agyemang, but Bunn pounced on the ball before the on-loan QPR forward could stab in.

Gary Johnson responded by introducing Danny Haynes and Marvin Elliott in place of Agyemang and Williams with 20 minutes to go. The pair had been ill in the week and were flown up by the chairman on the day of the game after their recovery.

City's day was summed up on 71 minutes when Hartley floated in a corner and Carey headed the ball against the crossbar.

To make matters worse a heavy collision between Gerken and Fontaine saw the latter flattened in the penalty area. Remarkably the defender - who received an accidental headbutt from his own keeper - returned to the field after a spot of treatment.

Camara tested Gerken twice in quick succession with shots from the edge of the box and the hosts went for a killer third goal.

Substitute Stephen Quinn came close in stoppage time but his left-footed shot back across goal flashed wide of the post.
