Bristol City 0-0 Wolves
Adam Baker reports from Ashton Gate

City's biggest home crowd of the season saw an entertaining, but goalless draw against Wolves at Ashton Gate,

There were chances for both sides in a match where the two goalkeepers came out on top. The only downside was a hapless whistle-happy display from referee Paul Taylor and his equally poor assistants.

Such dignitaries as Scotland boss George Burley and FA Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore were among the 19,332 crowd, and as they took their seats they almost saw City fall behind inside a minute.

Wolves should have scored as Jamie McCombe was robbed by Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, who in turn set up Michael Gray in the box. The former Sunderland man missed his kick at the first attempt and saw his second effort saved well by Adriano Basso.

Ebanks-Blake continued to threaten, sending a 25-yard effort just wide of goal and then taking the ball from a nervous Louis Carey and McCombe before being crowded out in the box.

Steve Brooker - making his first start for the club in a year and five days - saw an angled shot blocked, before at the other end Matthew Jarvis fired over following good build-up play from Andy Keogh.

Basso again came to City's rescue on 33 minutes with a superb one-handed save to keep out Jarvis' far post effort.

At the opposite end Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal was just as impressive when Jamie McAllister's chipped pass sent Cole Skuse dashing into the box. The Wolves stopper made an initial block and then executed a sliding challenge on Brooker when seemingly out of position.

City had the ball in the net seven minutes after half-time but Carey's effort was ruled out for offside - the home skipper one of several players caught out by Wolves' trap. Ebanks-Blake sent a bending shot flashing past the far post at the other end.

The keepers again came to the fore with 20 minutes left, with Hennessey denying Ivan Sproule inside the box and Basso tipping over a swerving volley from Keogh.

Brooker teased two quickfire attempts over and wide, while Skuse produced a goal-saving tackle to prevent Seyi Olofinjana from netting.

With ten minutes left the injured McAllister was replaced by Liam Fontaine. Nick Carle and Dele Adebola soon followed for Sproule and Darren Byfield.

Carle's first contribution to the game was a tackle on Jarvis in the box that screamed penalty, but referee Taylor remarkably waved away the appeals.

Basso saved again from Olofinjana at the death before Bradley Orr sent a chipped effort just wide of the goal.

City remain in the promotion hunt, but they must do things the hard way now with two of their last three matches away from home.
