Leicester City 0-0 Bristol City
Adam Baker reports from the Walkers Stadium

City hit the woodwork twice and Leicester wasted numerous great chances as this clash incredibly ended goalless.

Both sides had chances aplenty, but neither could break the deadlock and a share of the spoils was just about fair.

In a lively start to the game DJ Campbell forced Adriano Basso into a low save and Jamie McCombe did well to divert a driven Iain Hume shot into the side-netting.

City responded on seven minutes when Marvin Elliott fed Michael McIndoe in box and the winger skipped beyond his marker to force Paul Henderson into a strong save.

Moments later Nick Carle was picked out in the area by Darren Byfield, but his low shot took a deflection and flashed wide of the post.

The chances kept coming thick and fast with Steve Howard heading over twice from close range.

Then Hume came to the fore. Lee Johnson was robbed by Campbell on the edge of the box, who teed up the winger. But Hume chose power rather than placement and drove the ball wide.

Five minutes before the interval Hume was in the clear again after being picked out by Kelvin Etuhu. But once more the winger missed the target, this time over the bar.

Then, in first half stoppage time, Hume raced on to a ball from Campbell and forced Basso into a parried save. Etuhu looked certain to tuck home the rebound but skewed his effort wide.

The chances kept coming for Leicester after the interval as Liam Fontaine was well-placed to hack a Howard header off the goal-line.

Then Lee Hendrie missed his kick in the area after being picked out unmarked by Etuhu.

City responded through Elliott, who played a neat one-two with Byfield before driving a low shot against the foot of the far post.

On 64 minutes City were denied by the woodwork again. Brian Wilson raced forward down the right and unleashed a stunning 30-yard drive which bounced down off the crossbar and close to the line.

That let off sparked Leicester into life. Substitute Matty Fryatt missed from close range and then Fontaine cleared another off the line in a goal-mouth scramble.

McCombe almost diverted the ball into his own net and another replacement, Joe Mattock, shot wide from six yards with the goal gaping.

Lee Trundle's first real involvement as a substitute was to send an overhead kick over the top.

Fontaine made another great goal-line stop with time ticking away. The defender was well placed to head clear Fryatt's acrobatic effort.

And from the resulting corner Basso made a superb save to keep out a low drive from Matt Oakley.

Chances at the death from Ivan Sproule and Howard both produced saves from the respective opposition keepers as an enthralling game finished goalless.
