PUPILS GO GREEN AT GATE
Local schoolchildren have transformed the backyard of the Study Centre at Ashton Gate into a conservation garden.
A group of Year 6 children from Stoke Bishop Primary School have helped build the garden alongside staff from the club's community team.
Study Centre manager Russell Tanner says: "It is a stimulating and colourful area which will attract an array of wildlife, and be a great place to learn about the environment.
"The new garden contains a range of habitats and native plant species with lots of colour and fragrance.
"After fact-finding visits to the Ecohome at the Create Centre and Bristol Zoo the children were given a budget to spend on pots, plants and soil at the Riverside Garden Centre.
"The children have helped us construct a flower bed with railway sleepers, build a rockery, dig a pond, make a path and form a log pile to transform what was formerly a sea of gravel.
"Our thanks to Gary Johnson and the many players who came along to meet with the children and officially open the garden."
