MY LATEST FITNESS REPORT!

Posted on: Thu 21 Feb 2008

Read City captain Louis Carey's exclusive website blog, only on bcfc.co.uk.

Another week, another blog starting with an injury update!

I trained earlier this week with the reserves and will join the first team lads this morning, with a view to travelling to Colchester on Saturday.

The lads have done well recently so I'm not sure if I'll come straight back into the team, but it would just be nice to be a part of it right now.

I wasn't quite right for the Crystal Palace game on Monday, even though I hoped I would be. The physio and fitness coach knew I wasn't fit enough to play from the way I was running in training a day or two before the game, and you can't take risks at this stage in the season.

In my absence the team rescued a big point on Monday, with Boom Boom popping up deep into injury time to score.

I had made my way down to the Williams tunnel area because it looked like the game had been lost, but we have a never say die attitude at the club and it was a great set-piece to earn a point. Boom gets a bit of stick from the gaffer because of his size, but this time he came up trumps.

Saturday's trip to Colchester won't be easy. They've drawn a lot of games this season and that's why they are down the bottom fighting for their lives.

We've struggled at Layer Road in the past, but now is the time when we need to go on a good run, starting this weekend.

Fan Question: Have you studied our remaining fixtures and set yourself a mental target for how many points or how many wins you think you are going to need to grab an automatic promotion place, or is that something only us supporters do? Martyn Hocking, Tunbridge Wells.

Yes. I'd love to enlighten everyone, but as we said at the start of the season, our targets remain for the four walls of the dressing room only. We keep taking each game as it comes and haven't said anything publicly about targets, so I can't start doing that now (sorry).

Fan Question: Can you tell us why Nick Carle doesn't have a badge on his shirt? I have noticed it the last few games and thought it strange. It is a medical condition perhaps (Runner's nipple?). PS: Can you tell Scotty I am still waiting for the signed picture that he promised me months ago?
Jophie Lenton, Williton, Somerset.

I don't know, but I'll mention it to the kitman and get back to you Jophie. It's not something I've noticed. As for Scotty, I'll give him a nudge!

Fan Question: I work in retail and try to motivate my team each morning with a five-minute meeting. What would Gary say before a busy Saturday with lots of money up for grabs? Matt Franklin, Ashton.

I suppose our 'money up for grabs' is promotion, but the gaffer has never brought money into it. He's not money-motivated and I don't think the lads are either. It's our job to try and get us promoted and that's what we're trying to do. The gaffer has his own way of motivating us, sometimes at half-time to give us a kickstart, but much of it is psychological.

My question for you relates to your foot injury, and how much fitness work you are able to do still. Can you still do some cardio and upper body work whilst the foot recovers? Or does everything have to stop for a while? PS - Please give my best to Mark when you speak with him again. David Plumb, Blagdon.

I've been doing upper body work and bike work as well, although the latter is nothing like running on the pitch. It just keeps you ticking over while the foot recovers. I've had a little mixture of everything really, but hopefully all that is behind me now. I'll give your regards to Mark.

Fan Question: Do you think you are enjoying your football more than any other time as a Bristol City player? Laurence Mora, Ealing, London.

Yes, if only because these are really exciting times for the club. We have a gaffer who is really enthusiastic and ambitious - that rubs off on the lads at the end of the day. Even at the age of 31, I want to play more than ever because I am enjoying my football.
