Winger named his country's best Under-21 player.

Bristol City’s Callum O’Dowda has won the FAI’s Under-21 Player of the Year award.

The youngster collected the honour at a Gala Dinner at RTE Studios in Ireland last night, beating off competition from Everton’s Harry Charsley

and West Ham United’s Josh Cullen, who is on loan at Bradford City.

O’Dowda said on collecting his award: “It’s been a great year. To be honest the last two years have been big with Ireland Under-21s.

“The gaffer (Martin O’Neill) and all the staff have been brilliant to me since I moved into the first team setup.

“Obviously I won promotion with my hometown club Oxford United and then got the move to Bristol City; it’s a step up I felt I was ready for.

“Hopefully I can continue to push on from here and do my best for club and country.”

O’Dowda has been named in the Irish senior side’s squad for Friday’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Wales in Dublin, before a potential meeting with Hordur Magnusson and Iceland on Tuesday, March 28th.
